FAQ
Where do you find all these demos?
The Game Demos team is constantly searching the web for new demos and download locations to add to our database. We also receive links from users who would like to see a particular download added to the site and we welcome submissions from the maintainers of sites that host the downloads as well.
What font is used for the Game Demos logo?
Microgramma.
Why don't you host any of the demo files yourselves?
The amount of bandwidth required to host game demos is extremely high, especially given the size of some demos nowadays. We don't have the budget or infrastructure to offer fast access to that amount of data, and we see no point in attempting to compete with the sites that are already offering such a service.
Why are the statistics out of date?
Calculating some of the statistics, such as the number of games listed on the site, involves counting all the rows in a database table. This can be a lengthy operation (relative to just fetching the data required to display a page), so instead we calculate the statistics every night and cache them for 24 hours.
What programming languages and software were used to develop the site?
All the server-side scripts on the site are written in PHP with MySQL providing the backend database facilities. Client-side validation on the forms is done using JavaScript, and the final result after all the server-side parsing is XHTML and CSS.
Can I purchase advertising space on Game Demos?
We are currently using Google's Adsense programme to serve targetted ads on our site. At the moment, this system is being tested by us to see whether it provides a reasonable source of revenue. Whilst we may or may not stick with Google Adsense as our ad server, we'd like to give the scheme a trial for at least six months before coming to a final decision.
